Moonshot Films is delighted to share that our animated family feature Christmas Inc. has been announced to the international market ahead of Cannes.
The project, developed by Moonshot Films, will be produced by Cantilever Media and ReDefine Originals, with Moonshot Films serving as co-producer. Global sales and financing outfit Architect will launch the film to buyers worldwide, with Kazoo Films taking rights for the UK and Ireland.
Set in a world where Santa has retired to the Bahamas and Christmas is now run by a glossy corporate empire, Christmas Inc. is a joyful, witty and heartfelt animated adventure for the whole family.
At the centre of the story is Goldie, an ambitious elf assistant working for eccentric billionaire Jerri Ronson, the head of Christmas Incorporated. Determined to modernise, streamline and optimise the festive season, Jerri sends Goldie from sunny California to shut down the world’s last traditional toy workshop, hidden deep in the rainy British countryside. But when Goldie discovers a chaotic, magical world of handmade toys, misfit elves and unexpected heart, she begins to question what really makes Christmas special.
The film is co-written by award-winning British screenwriter Chris Anastasi and comedy writer Clare Plested, and will be directed by award-winning animation director Avgousta Zourelidi, whose credits include Monster High: Electrified, Moominvalley and Angry Birds. ReDefine Originals will act as the exclusive animation studio for the feature.
Andrew Baker, CEO of Cantilever Media, described the film as “a fun animated family film” with the potential to become “a timeless, annual favourite.”
The announcement marks an exciting milestone for Moonshot Films. The launch of Christmas Inc. represents a major step forward in our growing slate of original film and television projects. We are incredibly proud to see this magical, mischievous and very modern Christmas story heading to the international market, and we look forward to sharing more news as the project develops.
Christmas Inc. will be presented to buyers at the Cannes Market.
